The Department of Property 2021 morning tea

For our Doctoral and Masters students, the start of the academic year was recognised by the Department of Property with our annual welcome morning tea on Monday 22 March at the Level 5 Social Bridge of the Business School's Sir Owen G Glenn Building.

Following the welcome by Head of Department Professor Deborah Levy, staff and students took the opportunity to re-connect with each other after the summer break before starting our first Spotlight Session of the year.

In 2021, two other events have been added to the Department of Property's monthly Spotlight Sessions to broaden the doctoral and post-graduate students' experience. Doctoral candidates who have submitted their thesis for examination now have the opportunity to present their work to the wider Business School in preparation for their oral examination.

Yang Yang presented his PhD thesis Overvaluation or Undervaluation? Measuring House Price Bubbles for Investment and Owner-occupancy, followed by a Q&A session. In addition, industry guest speakers have been invited to share their experiences to broaden the understanding and opportunities for post-graduate students. Our first guest speaker was Chris Farhi from Colliers, who is also a PhD candidate. Chris shared his reflections on ten years spent in real estate consulting in his presentation Real estate consulting: mixing business and academics.
