Visa requirements
Visiting medical students undertaking clinical training in New Zealand are required to obtain a Student and Trainee Work Visa. This visa is specifically designed for individuals engaging in practical, work-based training such as medical electives.
Please note:
- Overseas Elective Students will not be enrolled in a course at the University of Auckland and are therefore not eligible for a Student Visa.
We strongly recommend that you begin the visa application process at least three months prior to your intended arrival in New Zealand.
For full details and to apply, visit the Immigration New Zealand website.
For Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents
- Australian citizens can usually live, work and study in New Zealand without applying for a visa or New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before arrival.
- Australian permanent residents will normally need a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before they travel — unless they already have a valid New Zealand visa.
Australian citizens and Australian permanent residents may be able to enter New Zealand without applying for visa in advance but may require a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before entering New Zealand.
