Professor Richard Mithen - Liggins Institute Interim Director

Richard Mithen is a Professor of Nutrition and Chief Scientist of the High Value Nutrition - Ko Ngā Whai Painga National Science Challenge.

Richard completed a PhD at the University of East Anglia Norwich UK. He worked as a botanist and plant collector in southern Africa before becoming a group leader at the John Innes Centre. Subsequently, he was Professor of Crop Science at the University of Nottingham and programme leader and acting Director at the Institute of Food Research and Quadram Institute Biosciences.

Richard relocated to the University of Auckland in 2019. He was Associate Director – Research at the Liggins Institute before taking up the Interim Director position in March 2023.
