The first 2026 Thai Language course will be held from Thursday 26 February to Thursday 16 April 2026.

Thailand, often referred to as “The Land of Smiles,” is known for its rich cultural heritage, striking temples, world-renowned cuisine, and welcoming communities. Learning Thai provides a meaningful way to experience this culture more deeply, whether for travel, personal interest, or future engagement with Thailand.

Course overview

This introductory course is designed for complete beginners and those preparing to travel to Thailand. It provides foundational Thai language skills and cultural insights to support confident communication in everyday situations.

This course is ideal for anyone interested in Thai language and culture, including travellers, beginners seeking a new learning opportunity, or individuals wishing to engage more meaningfully with Thai communities.

What you will learn

Participants will develop practical skills in:

  • Basic greetings and self-introductions
  • Essential everyday expressions
  • Ordering and understanding
  • Thai cuisine
  • Common phrases for shopping and local interactions
  • Numbers, counting, and telling time in Thai

Course details – Level 1

Dates:  26 February to 17 April 2026 (eight consecutive Thursday evenings)
Time:    5-6.30pm
Venue:  Room 317, Level 3, The University of Auckland Business School, Sir Owen G. Glenn Building, 12 Grafton Road, Auckland 1010 (pay parking available beneath the building).

Instructor: Amy Amnuaporn Oswald is an experienced Thai language instructor with a comprehensive background in community and cultural education. She brings a practical, supportive approach to helping learners build confidence in Thai communication.

Fee: $250 plus GST
