Developing an entrepreneurial mindset

"What’s special about the Business School is how it encourages you to stay curious, ask better questions, and explore different ways of thinking. That mindset has shaped how I approach almost everything. I also learned the value of keeping your learning broad and your thinking flexible. I picked Gen Ed papers that felt a little rogue at the time, like robotics, coding, and media communications, but those choices have helped me connect dots others often miss. As an entrepreneur now, I still draw on that interdisciplinary edge and inquisitive mindset constantly."

Innovation and inspiration

"Summer Lab was a huge turning point. It was practical, fast-paced, and full of people excited to turn ideas into action. That experience led to co-creating and leading Unleash Space, where I got to build something from scratch alongside incredible students and staff. But honestly, it wasn’t just one moment. It was the mix of mentors, student clubs, and all those late-night brainstorms that taught me you don’t need to wait to start something meaningful. Momentum comes from saying yes and surrounding yourself with others doing the same."

Support at the Business School

"The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship was huge for me. The staff are true cheerleaders, and the students involved are some of the most engaged and inspiring people I’ve met. I also believe it’s powerful to find three core communities while you’re at university: one that grounds you culturally (CAPM was that for me), one that challenges your thinking (TEDxUoA), and one that expands your worldview (the Women’s Mentoring Programme). Those spaces shaped my ventures, my values, and the networks I carry with me today."

Advice for high school students

"Choose depth and presence over busyness. Say yes to what lights you up, then show up fully. Sit at the front of class, connect with your lecturers, and get to know the people beside you. Join events that excite or stretch you and be known for contributing with heart and curiosity. Don’t just collect credits, collect the experiences that stretch and shape you, and remind you of the bigger picture.

New Zealand is small. How you show up now will shape how people remember you for years to come. Work hard. Be kind. Own your mistakes. Have the tough conversations. Keep learning, always."
