If you're passionate about the science of food, how it affects health, and making a difference in people’s lives, our undergraduate nutrition pathways offer the perfect starting point. The University of Auckland provides several undergraduate study options that prepare you for advanced study and a professional career in nutrition and dietetics.
Our department offers three undergraduate pathways that meet the entry requirements for the Master of Health Sciences in Nutrition and Dietetics—the qualification required to become a Registered Dietitian in Aotearoa New Zealand:
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Food Science and Nutrition – Nutrition specialisation
Explore the science of food and nutrients, their role in health, and how they are processed in the body. - Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biomedical Science – Nutrition and Metabolism pathway
Investigate nutrition at the cellular and molecular level and understand how nutrients influence metabolism and health outcomes. - Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc) – Population Health Nutrition specialisation
Focus on nutrition in the context of public health, equity, and health promotion at a population level.
If you're considering applying for the Master of Health Science in Nutrition and Dietetics, but have not completed the Nutrition specialisation of the BSc in Food Science and Nutrition, it’s recommended you include key foundational courses such as FOODSCI 100, FOODSCI 200, POPLHLTH 206, POPLHLTH 305, BIOSCI 358, and MEDSCI 315 in your degree plan.
