About our department
The Department of Surgery is located within Building 507, 22-30 Park Avenue, as well as at numerous hospitals across the North Island.
A number of surgeons within these hospitals have academic or honorary positions with the Department of Surgery. They are responsible for providing surgical training to all medical students during their fourth, fifth and sixth years of instruction. The academic clinicians also undertake surgical research, collaborating with other academics across the University, New Zealand and worldwide.
Mission statement
Our mission statement is to undertake research and teaching of the highest possible standard in all disciplines of surgery, and contribute to the delivery of high quality surgical healthcare in Auckland and beyond.
Research
Surgical research is a key focus of this department. It aims to enhance the research capacity of surgeons, scientists and students working within the field of surgery.
