About us
The Simulation Centre for Patient Safety is a high-fidelity simulation and teaching facility within the Department of Anaesthesiology at Grafton Campus. We aim to improve patient safety and outcomes through simulation with an emphasis on human factors, teamwork and communication.
Simulation-based learning uses scenarios to allow students to experience representation of a real event for practice and learning, as well as understand systems or human factors in a safe, supported environment with no risk to actual patients.
We deliver undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching and provide professional development opportunities, such as workshops and seminars, that require a simulated clinical environment.
Our simulation areas, including a fully outfitted operating room, replicate a variety of healthcare settings, using high-fidelity patient simulators and modern medical equipment to enable learning across a range of scenarios and levels of clinical experience.
What we do
The Simulation Centre for Patient Safety provides hands-on, simulation-based learning for undergraduate healthcare students and postgraduate health professionals. This includes intravenous cannulation and phlebotomy, airway skills, basic and advanced resuscitation teaching, along with immersive team scenarios and interprofessional learning.
We deliver short courses, including Effective Management of Anaesthesia Crises (EMAC), Advanced and Complex Medical Emergencies (ACME), Tracheostomy Management for Speech Language Therapists, as well as IV Cannulation and Phlebotomy.
We also provide simulation skills training, developing skills in the design, execution, and debriefing of clinical scenarios.
