Inaugural Lecture: Professor Simon Swift

Title: Oh là là, la barbe bleue
In his inaugural lecture, Professor Swift talked about his favourite achievements in the study of bacterial cell communications, biofilms, biocides and extracellular vesicles. He reflected on the development of his philosophies for research, teaching, and service, as well as professed his thoughts and opinions on current challenges and opportunities in his research field.
Simon graduated with a BSc(hons) in Applied Biochemistry in 1987 and a PhD in Molecular Microbiology in 1991 (both from Nottingham University, UK). He undertook postdoctoral research at the Universities of Auckland (in SBS) and Nottingham before taking up an academic position at the University of Auckland in 2001.
