Key dates and availability
Due to the large numbers of applications received each year, we are required to keep to a strict timetable when allocating elective placements. The New Zealand academic year runs from March to November.
Teaching schedule
Placements will be offered in alignment with the Year 6 Elective Quarters of the Auckland Medical Programme. All placements must start and conclude within the specified Quarter dates.
Please note:
- Placements cannot start before the second Monday in January.
- No placements are offered in December as it coincides with a major vacation period.

Applications are processed in the order they are received. No late applications will be considered.
How to apply
Please click on the Overseas Elective Scheme “Expression of Interest” link below, complete and submit this form to register your interest in applying. Your details will be recorded against your dates of interest, and you will be sent a link to the appropriate application when application dates open.
Application forms and required documents must be submitted between the specified application period. All arrangements are to be made directly with the Overseas Electives Coordinator, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.
No other member of the University or hospital staff has authority to make these arrangements and any offers of placement from other University or hospital staff will be considered conditional only and subject to confirmation by the Overseas Electives Coordinator.
