Key dates and availability
Due to the large numbers of applications received each year, we are required to keep to a strict timetable when allocating elective placements. The New Zealand academic year runs from March to November.
Placements will be offered in alignment with the Year 6 Elective Quarters of the Auckland Medical Programme, which are split into two 5-week halves. Candidates can request a placement from 2 weeks up to 5 weeks in length. Start and finish dates for each 5-week block are listed below by Quarter. Elective placements should begin and conclude during a specified placement block.

Applications are processed in the order they are received. No late applications will be considered.
How to apply
Application forms and required documents must be submitted between January and March in the year prior to the elective. All arrangements are to be made directly with the Overseas Electives Coordinator, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. No other member of the University or hospital staff has authority to make these arrangements.
Please note: December and January is a vacation period in New Zealand. At this stage we will not be offering elective placements in December 2023.
