Growing up, I had both positive and negative experiences with healthcare. These experiences inspired me to pursue a career where I could make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Nursing felt like the perfect path because it allows me to walk alongside people, and advocate for them, during some of their most challenging times.

Stephanie Baker Bachelor of Nursing

"The Bachelor of Nursing gave me a solid foundation of knowledge and clinical skills. Both the theoretical learning and clinical placements were among the most rewarding aspects of my studies. The placements allowed me to put the knowledge I gained in the classroom into practice, working alongside experienced nurses in real-world healthcare settings. I also had the chance to explore many diverse specialties. Each placement not only helped me discover my passion but also strengthened my dedication to advocate for equitable, person-centred care, particularly as I witnessed the health disparities many patients face.

"I found the community at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences incredibly supportive. The lecturers were always approachable and provided guidance whenever I needed it. During my degree, I faced a challenging personal event. The nursing faculty went above and beyond to support me through that time, ensuring I could continue my studies. The level of care and understanding I received from the faculty was incredible, and I’m deeply grateful for the support they provided throughout my degree.

"There was also a strong sense of peer support among my fellow nursing students, which made a big difference, especially during stressful periods like exams and placements.

"If your passionate about health, well-being and helping others, and want a career that is challenging, rewarding and incredibly diverse and dynamic then nursing is an incredible career path. Be prepared to work hard but know that the support you’ll receive from lecturers and peers will help you to succeed."
