Vision 20:20 is an Indigenous-led, comprehensive, collaborative, student-centric intervention managed by Te Kupenga Hauora Māori (TKHM) and includes:

  • Whakapiki Ake – Māori recruitment
  • Hikitia Te Ora – Certificate in Health Sciences – one-year bridging/foundation programme
  • Māori and Pacific Admission Scheme (MAPAS) – admissions, retention, academic, cultural and pastoral support
  • Pacific Health Wayfinders – Pacific recruitment (managed by the Department of Pacific Health)

MAPAS is an admission scheme designed to help our students reach their goals so they can contribute and be a valuable part of increasing the number of Māori and Pacific health professionals needed in New Zealand.

Hikitia Te Ora - Certificate in Health Sciences (CertHSc)

Our Hikitia Te Ora - Certificate in Health Sciences (CertHSc) is a one-year foundation programme that prepares Māori and Indigenous Pacific students for tertiary study in health.

The CertHSc programme content has a focus on academic and science literacy including chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics and population health, all of which are necessary for success in First Year (FY) courses taught in Mātauranga Hauora l Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.

Whakapiki Ake Project (WPA)

The Whakapiki Ake Project (WPA) is a recruitment programme that actively engages with rangatahi Māori enrolled in secondary schools to promote health as a career and entry into Mātauranga Hauora l Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) professional programmes.

WPA offers exposure to health career options, assistance for students to apply to FMHS and some financial support for successful applicants.
