Morgan applied for a conjoint science degree at The University of Auckland after discovering an interest in engineering and mathematics. Five years later, she graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering and a Bachelor of Science.

"My parents have always supported me doing what I enjoy, but always pushed me towards a tertiary education degree after high school."

She was fortunate to be awarded a First Foundation scholarship during her time at the University.

"The scholarship provided me with work experience in an engineering environment during my summer holidays and set me up with a mentor to guide me through my degree, who also became a good friend. Attending University and gaining industry experience early in my journey was invaluable. It allowed me to see what I was studying towards and know I was on the right path."

Toward the end of her undergraduate degree, Morgan completed several summer research projects.

I took a liking to research while working on my summer projects and decided to pursue it further.

After completing her Master's degree, she began her PhD in Mathematics, with an academia-focused career as her primary aspiration.

Morgan keeps an open mind about industry as a career option at some stage, advising students not to be afraid to change their minds about the career they pursue.

She encourages Māori and Pacific students to attend the Tuākana programmes. All students are welcome, and it is a great scene to be a part of, especially if you want to meet people and collaborate with others.

Lastly, she recommends students, "Go for every opportunity out there, put yourself in awkward situations, and apply for every scholarship and job opportunity. You will be surprised how many of you have a good chance of getting what you set your sights on. And failure does not mean the end of the world. You only need one opportunity to get your foot in the door."
