Undergraduate study

Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Honours)

Our department offers the only Medical Imaging degree offered by a university in New Zealand. Successful completion of this programme leads to registration with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board (MRTB).

Classes are taught on the Grafton campus by our team of experienced Medical Imaging practitioners, and supported by our radiologists, physicists and anatomists. Students learn experientially in simulation labs at Auckland Hospital, as well as at clinical placement sites throughout the country.

Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences

The Bachelor of Biomedical Science (BBiomedSc) is a dedicated, cohort-based degree focused on the biological basis of human health and disease, and how this knowledge is applied in clinical and biomedical contexts.

The programme provides a strong foundation across key areas of biomedical science, including molecular biology, genetics, physiology and disease mechanisms, alongside skills in data analysis and scientific reasoning. Learning is integrated across courses and structured around real-world health challenges, with teaching delivered across both the City and Grafton campuses.

Academic staff from Medical Imaging contribute to teaching within the BBiomedSc, particularly in areas related to human structure, imaging technologies, and clinical applications of biomedical science.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Programme (MBChB)

Our department also contributes to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery programme (MBChB). We coordinate the Nervous system and Special Senses module as well as delivering the Radiology Weeks. We deliver lectures in the Respiratory system, Digestive system, Cardiovascular system, Genitourinary System modules in MBChB 221, and the Nervous system and Special Senses, Reproduction and Endocrinology and medical humanities modules in MBChB 321.
