Assessing the Omega-3 Long Chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Intakes in New Zealanders using a validated semi-quantitative FFQ

This study aims to understand how much omega-3 New Zealand adults consume and which foods are the main sources of omega-3 in their diets.

Omega-3 fats are important nutrients that support health, but little is known about how much New Zealand adults consume. By taking part in this study, you will help researchers better understand omega-3 intake and dietary sources across New Zealand.

What's involved?

You can take part in this study from anywhere in Aotearoa New Zealand. Taking part involves completing an anonymous online food frequency questionnaire (FFQ), which takes approximately 15 minutes.

You’ll be asked to:

  • answer multiple choice questions about foods containing omega-3 that you have eaten over the past three months, including how often you eat them and your usual portion sizes
  • answer a few general questions about yourself, including your age, gender, region, dietary patterns, and health
  • complete the questionnaire on your phone, tablet, or computer at a time that suits you

The questionnaire includes pictures to help you estimate portion sizes. Your responses will be anonymous and no information that could identify you will be collected.

At the end of the questionnaire, you can choose to enter a draw to win one of two $250 supermarket vouchers.

Eligibility criteria

To participate, you must:

  • be aged 18 years or older
  • live in Aotearoa New Zealand
  • be able to read and understand English well enough to complete the questionnaire
