The Future Food Research Centre brings together multidisciplinary and multi-sectoral expertise to find solutions for problems related to food security, systems efficiencies, waste, sovereignty and innovation.

Our research

The Future Food Research Centre’s research is focused on critical challenges in the future food space. Our research capacities include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Sustainable novel food ingredients including plant-based and indigenous ingredients with health benefits
  • Disruptive technologies such as 3D printing, AI, sensors and bioprocessing
  • Precision nutrition for specific needs and population health
  • Food safety including chemical and microbiological safety, blockchain and big data
  • Food by-product utilisation to develop value-added products
  • Clean food processing
  • Sustainable materials for food packaging
  • Food sovereignty
  • Consumer and sensory sciences
  • Transdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research involving the above areas to ensure food sustainability
