Smart Start Week

We are excited to welcome our new students to the Science Faculty and to have existing students back on campus again!

During the first week of semester two, we have a series of smart start workshops for you. This will be a fantastic opportunity for you to engage with different University services, explore the support available to you, and identify some fantastic opportunities for further development.

All our workshops are around lunchtime in the science assistance room (302-170), so you can have a chat with the presenters while enjoying FREE LUNCH! Limited spots, so book yourself in now!

'A place to create what you can imagine!' presented by Unleash Space

Tuesday 20 July 11 am to 12 pm

The Unleash Space is your space for creating, playing, making, inventing, experimenting, and doing. For those interested in exploring the world of innovation and entrepreneurship, there are workshops, brainstorming spaces, and tools and machinery. Join us to build your skills and networks in a supportive and fun environment!

'Travel while you study? Study while you travel!' presented by 360 International

Tuesday 20 July 12-1pm

Accelerate your potential with 360 International through global learning opportunities. You can take part in a diverse range of programmes, including the semester exchange programme, virtual and short-term opportunities, internships and more. Find out how you can add a global experience to your university journey!

'A bit too much to bear? Student support is here!' presented by Student Support Advisers

Wednesday 21 July 11am-12pm 

Advice from how to manage your workload, if you are in the right major to what to do when experiencing anxiety and depression? Tips on how to navigate the University services and how to make friends at uni? Join this session with Erica, our support adviser for international and refugee background students and Mariam, who supports Domestic and Equity students in Science. Please feel free to bring questions for the question box or paper will be provided.  

'Are you ready for your future career?' presented by Career Development and Employability Services (CDES)

'Student Voice? Yes, Your Voice!' presented by Auckland University Students' Association (AUSA)

AUSA is run by students, for students! AUSA brings you awesome events such as O-Week and Party in the Spark. They are also your voice in the University - if you want something changed, come and talk to them! Join this workshop to chat with Temi, the AUSA Class Representative and International Buddies Manager!

'Library - we are more than just books!' presented by Library and Learning Services

The library and learning services provide excellent opportunities, environments, services, resources, tools and expertise for learning and research. Join this workshop to find out the workshops, online learning resources and advice for you to develop your academic skills to the next level!

'How to strive with UoA digital tools?' presented by Science Ambassador Leaders

Friday 23 July 12.30–1.30pm

Our Science ambassadors are second-year or third-year students who have been through exactly what you are going through now. Join this workshop with our Science Ambassador Leaders Olivia and Josie to navigate your way around Canvas and Student Services Online (SSO) - you will be using those two platforms a lot throughout your study at the University of Auckland!
