“During high school I really enjoyed Statistics and wanted to pursue a degree that involved it. I heard about Data Science from the University of Auckland open day and thought it would be a really good way to incorporate statistics into my degree, and lead to many job opportunities, as data science seemed really in demand.

“I really loved the blend of Statistics and Computer Science that Data Science offered; the programme gives you a solid skill set in both areas. This is extremely useful as it opens up so many career paths and gives you a lot to choose from depending on which skills you enjoy more."

While I unfortunately spent a lot of my university life in lockdown and online due to Covid-19, I was still lucky to meet many great people... Some of these people have become lifelong friends, who I am very grateful to have met.

“I joined FDM group through a graduate program and I am currently working at KPMG in Melbourne as a consultant in the Powered Data team. I love solving difficult challenges and being able to put my technical skills to use—it is a very rewarding feeling to be able to solve a problem through hard work and collaboration.

“I’ve found that the technical and problem-solving skills from Data Science have really helped me in my current position, as I was able to adapt my knowledge to new systems and learn new things quickly, and adaptability is important when working with technology. The skills I gained around communicating information have also been very helpful, as I often find myself presenting ideas or information to various people.

“While I unfortunately spent a lot of my university life in lockdown and online due to Covid-19, I was still lucky to meet many great people both in my own and in other departments. Some of these people have become lifelong friends, who I am very grateful to have met.

“I have also had some amazing lecturers who put so much time and energy into teaching their subject. Their passion and love for the subject is so obvious, and really encourages student to find their own areas of passion.”
