The Faculty of Science has developed the eight research themes below to support the University of Auckland's research goals and strategies.
Our research theme members champion research that pursues balanced land and water use, as well as strong sustainable cities, communities and regions.
This theme is focused on melding the latest ideas from computer science with the frontiers of understanding in biology.
Our theme concentrates on research which contributes to the health and wellbeing of our populations, including food safety, agriculture, nutrition and exercise.
Theme members pursue research that delves into innovative manufacturing, nanotechnology, photonic and quantum technology, green chemistry and climate science.
Our theme explores the representation, modelling, communication and processing of ideas and information in computers and in the human mind.
We are a diverse group focused on furthering our understanding of the Earth and the universe. Our research spans the earth, space and fundamental questions.
We are group of social and physical scientists committed to engaging with society to inform, mitigate and contribute to significant societal challenges.
Our theme is focused on understanding human diseases and disorders as well as their causes and treatments.
